Don’t Have Time to Read? Your Commute Might Disagree

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” — Mahatma Gandhi

One of the best ways we take in new information is by reading. Some of us love it (Me me me!! Pick me!) and some of us, not so much. Either way, our brains can learn just as easily through our ears as through our eyes. (Don’t worry, all of you who swear you’re “visual learners”… that’s kind of a myth. You can absolutely learn by listening, too. That’s a topic for another day, but you can investigate here or here if you’re curious.)

Consider Audible. Here is a graph of how many books a person could finish in a year during a 30 minute commute. If they choose to listen to books every single day. (Don’t do that, some days you’re going to need music, comedy, or just the silence combined with the sound of the tires on the road.) It’s a great reminder of how much learning we can fit into everyday life.
