The kind of helplessness I’m talking about here is defined by Merriam-Webster as being “marked by an inability to act or react.” That’s when we believe we have no choices, even though we do.
You are the only one who has the power to change your thoughts, your beliefs, or your actions. If your life isn’t where you want it to be, don’t settle into victimhood. We all experience pain, betrayal, and setbacks. We all experience moments where we feel like (or actually are) a victim. That’s part of being human. Living in victimhood means staying stuck there, waiting for someone else to rescue you. You can take ownership and rescue yourself.
Support can be an important step, but it can’t be your whole strategy or you are destined to live your life giving away your power. You’ll end up stuck thinking that the world is out to get you and that you have no control.
You don’t have to transform everything at once. Just pick one thing. One step. One shift in thinking. One decision to move forward. Change builds from there. You can check out this article for one way help yourself: Simple Process Improvement Technique
If you need help, ask for help. That is ok and necessary sometimes, but don’t give away your role in your own story. You are the author of your life. Write the story you want to live.
