“What is for you, won’t go by you.”
— Scottish Proverb
You wanted it.
You prepared for it.
You were ready for it.
And then it didn’t happen.
You didn’t get the job.
The promotion didn’t go through.
The project got canceled.
It felt like the end of the world. It was at least the end of another thing to bring you closer to what you want.
What if that “no” or detour wasn’t a failure at all?
When we have goals, it’s natural to push for them.
You show up. You work hard. You go all in.
If it still doesn’t work out, it’s easy to think:
“Maybe I wasn’t good enough.”
“Maybe I did something wrong.”
As someone who has been at it a while, I understand it can be hard to hear and to feel a “no”. Sometimes no is a redirection. Sometimes it’s a safety net.
You didn’t get the job you were sure was it. Then, six months later, you landed somewhere that finally felt like home.
You were overlooked for a role which fueled you to go for something better.
You thought the canceled project would ruin your momentum. Instead, it gave you space to create something new. This new creation was more aligned with what you wanted to learn.
What’s meant for you won’t pass you by.
If something doesn’t work out the way you hoped, pause.
Then ask:
“What is this making space for?”
“What am I growing toward instead?”
The right opportunity will invite you to expand.
