7 Reflection Prompts to Boost Leadership

Leadership is about strategy, performance reviews, quarterly results AND it’s also about self-awareness. The best leaders I’ve worked with know that growth comes from pausing, reflecting, and asking themselves better questions.

That’s why this week of reflection prompts for leaders comes in handy. These are seven short but powerful questions. You can use them to check in with yourself, reset, and lead with intention.

Day 1: Monday — What energy am I bringing into the week?

Before you look at your to-do list, take a moment to notice. Are you walking into this week grounded? Are you anxious, hopeful, or distracted? Leaders set the emotional tone, often without realizing it.

Day 2: Tuesday — Where do I need to listen more deeply?

Most leaders think they’re good listeners, but few really are. Ask yourself: who on my team hasn’t been heard lately? What assumptions might I be making?

Day 3: Wednesday — What decision have I been avoiding?

Avoided decisions drain energy. Identify one you’ve put off. Why the delay? What information or courage do you need to move forward?

Day 4: Thursday — How have I supported connection this week?

People perform at their best when they feel they belong. Reflect on how you’ve created, or unintentionally limited, any team member’s feeling of connection, and psychological safety.

Day 5: Friday — What did I learn this week?

Growth happens when leaders stay curious. Capture at least one insight, success, or mistake you can carry into next week.

Day 6: Saturday — What do I need to release?

We often carry unresolved frustrations into our weekends and then right on back into Monday. Identify what you can let go of: an old story, a resentment, a perfectionist expectation.

Day 7: Sunday — What matters most right now?

Leadership gets noisy. This final reflection grounds you in what’s essential: relationships, priorities, values. Re-center before the week begins.

Closing

Reflection can be a foundation for better leadership. Making time to prompts yourself as part of your weekly rhythm can help bring clarity, empathy, and authenticity.
